On Saturday, April 13, 2024, the 2nd edition of the RECI Fun Morning, a meeting created by ReciVeci to pamper and celebrate the work of grassroots recyclers, creating an environment of enjoyment, fun, joy and health for them and their families
With regard to the fact that World Recyclers Day was celebrated on March 1st, this edition of the Fun Recimañana was organized at the facilities of the Monte Aromo Sports Complex, located in Nayón, Quito, and where waste pickers and their families had access to activities and services to which they do not always have access for various reasons.
During the day, which took place from 09:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., waste pickers and their families accessed for free unto personal health and wellness services like dental checkups, services of hairdressing, clothing donation and leisure activities such as swimming pool, dance therapy and a soccer championship with cash prizes.
The meeting was sponsored by the private sector, including the following companies: O-I Cridesa, Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Asuradora del Sur. In addition, it was supported by Seguros Zurich, who offered 150 insurance by accident to a group of grassroots recyclers; and the support of Laboratori Bagó, who gave cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place in the Lightning Football Championship that took place.
During the event, we also had the support of partners such as the Faculty of Dentistry of the International University of Ecuador, the Fashion International Aesthetics and Beauty Center and the Usa Reusa clothing donation initiative. The McDonald's company also pampered the little ones by offering their traditional happy boxes for the children who attended the event.
The protocol event included words from Edicson Gamba, Administrator of the Glass Hub by ReciVeci, O-I Cridesa, who announced this glass recovery initiative to the attending recyclers; Paola Palacios, Coca-Cola Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Manager for Peru and Ecuador, shared the Company's commitment to supporting sustainability initiatives in connection with its program A World Without Waste. Blanca Guaraca, a grassroots recycler for the United Hands Association, also shared a few words on behalf of waste pickers.
On the other hand, Daniel Rivadeneira, Sustainability Leader at Zurich Seguros, announced the offer of 150 accident insurance for basic recyclers. María Cristina Arellano, Sustainability Leader at Insuradora del Sur, and Lorena Gallardo, Technology and Innovation Manager and Co-Founder of ReciVeci, also shared words, who welcomed and thanked them from the ReciVeci team.
The event welcomed nearly 200 waste pickers and family members, and more than 100 children. At ReciVeci, we are very happy to be able to coordinate alliances and join forces with the invaluable support of the private sector to create this type of event, where the work of those who make a living from the recovery and sale of recyclable material is recognized and dignified.
Once again, we thank the companies O-I Cridesa, Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Asuradora del Sur for sponsoring this event, and of course, every basic recycler and recycler who attended, for trusting ReciVeci.
We hope that with the support of the private sector, we will continue to create alliances to continue building a culture of inclusive recycling and circular economy.
About ReciveCI:
ReciveCI is a Startup founded by three Ecuadorian women, which promotes material recovery for recyclers based on technological tools. The initiative connects all actors in the waste management chain through the ReciApp mobile application, which allows grassroots waste pickers to be linked to citizens, the private and public sectors, etc. In this way, inclusive recycling and returnability are promoted and the processes of transition to the circular economy and citizen awareness are facilitated. Currently, more than 1,800 recyclers are registered in this application.
