Our Purposeful Impact Approach

At ReciVeci we work with an impactful business model that is divided into five fundamental areas:

1. Governance

Our mission and vision reflect a deep commitment to social and environmental impact. We have clear policies that guarantee compliance with our strategic axes, which we have designed with a horizon from 2025 to 2031 and allow us to develop practices aligned with our principles of ethics, honesty and responsibility.

2. Workers

We are committed to equitable hiring processes and high-quality professional development. We promote financial security, compliance with national regulations, comprehensive well-being and the continuous growth of the human team that makes up ReciVeci.

3. Environment

Each of our interventions seeks to generate positive and significant environmental impacts. We contribute to the comprehensive management of solid waste, the circular economy and action against climate change. We measure the tons of carbon avoided thanks to waste recovery with social inclusion.

4. Community

The community dimension is central to our actions. We work to improve the living and working conditions of basic waste pickers, and we promote substantive changes in the habits of people, their neighborhoods and families. Our tool
ReciApp facilitates the direct delivery of recovered materials to recyclers, and we have socioeconomic, gender, diversity and environmental impact indicators (KPIs) that demonstrate the results of our actions.

5. Customers

We have consolidated a network of customers who trust ReciVeci because of the real value we generate. Through our impactful business model, we offer solutions that strengthen the link between companies, waste pickers and the environment, generating income for people in vulnerable situations.

Our beginnings

Fotografía de "Nuestros Inicios" ReciVeci
ReciVeci started in 2015 as a voluntary citizen initiative driven by more than 20 individuals in the La Carolina neighborhood of Quito. We were a group of dreamers and professionals from various fields who wanted to change the landscape we saw: a city that was massively wasting materials that could be reused and that base recyclers could leverage to significantly improve their working conditions.
From that initial group, three women professionals in environmental matters, eager to create innovative solutions, continued with the project: Paula Guerra, Claudia Andrade, and Lorena Gallardo. We decided to become a startup and create a mobile application that connected all the players in the city’s recycling chain: ReciApp.
ReciVeci is now a social enterprise that promotes the separation, recycling, and returnability of solid waste in homes and businesses across Ecuador through social and technological innovation. We aspire to build, through training, analysis, consulting, tool development, partnerships, and education, a society where inclusive and community recycling is part of our culture.

Our story

2015

ReciVeci began as a voluntary citizen initiative in the La Carolina neighborhood, emerging in response to the proliferation of trash containers in Quito and the challenges this posed for the work of base recyclers and their families. The first meeting was facilitated by Fundación Ciudadanía Inteligente from Chile, which organized a workshop to create a project focused on Recycling and Technology. This took place at the first IMPAQTO headquarters in Quito.

2016

We launched a crowdfunding campaign to develop the first version of the mobile app, ReciApp, aimed at showcasing the faces of base recyclers: who they were, how they got into recycling, and their dreams. We exceeded our fundraising goal in record time.

2017

We participated in and won the Urban Entrepreneurship Challenge organized by IMPAQTO. With that capital, we released a new, more interactive version of the app and began to establish ourselves as a startup. The launch of the new app version took place at Parque Urbano Cumandá, where we celebrated alongside base recyclers.

2018

We introduced an improved version of ReciApp during the Art and Recycling event in partnership with the Brazilian organization Pimp my Carroça. At this event, carts were given to base recyclers, which had been creatively modified by over 10 urban artists. It was a day dedicated to base recyclers, featuring dental care, hairstyling, and activities for children.

2020

During the pandemic, ReciApp gained greater visibility among citizens as it facilitated direct recycling without compromising their health, significantly improving working conditions for base recyclers at that time. We also implemented a rewards points system for recycling. That year, we won the BID-FEMSA Award in the Solid Waste category, competing against thousands of initiatives across the region.

2022

We entered the third cohort of the international 100+ Accelerator program, driven by four global consumer companies: AB InBev, Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, and Unilever. Thanks to this program, ReciVeci gained exposure by launching a pilot project with Coca-Cola and Cervecería Nacional in Ecuador. Additionally, we collaborated with the United Nations (UN) and secured the bid for Coca-Cola’s Zero Waste Store project.

2023

A new version of ReciApp was released, enhanced with a focus on users and features to implement campaigns with partner companies. We worked with a broad portfolio of clients/partners aiming to improve their environmental and social practices.
