ReciVeci recognizes the commitment of restaurants and grassroots recyclers to recycle with the Glass Hub
The ReciVeci team provided incentives and awards to restaurants and glass suppliers for recycling their bottles and jars with the Hub. This action is part of a project promoted by ReciVeci with the support of the Business Development Fund of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which seeks to strengthen glass recycling and the circular economy in Quito.
Establishments that make a difference
In total, the 17 establishments including restaurants, bars and cafeterias that deliver the most glass to the Hub were recognized. Each one was presented with a reused blue bottle engraved with a message of thanks (blue bottles are currently not recyclable in Ecuador), as a symbol of their commitment to closing the cycle of part of the products they use in their establishments. They offer added value by voluntarily separating and delivering their glass bottles to the Glass Hub. The recognized establishments were:
- La Gloria Restaurant.
- Lucía Pie House & Grill.
- We Wine.
- Ananké La Floresta.
- Ananké Guápulo.
- Nuema.
- Chacal Sports.
- Yiyi by Dumdum.
- Samah.
- L-Edén.
- Batzeq.
- La Cova del Drac.
- Urko.
- Palenque Casa.
- La Comarca Pub.
- La Parrilla de Riqui.
- Pilche.
Incentives for basic recyclers and glass suppliers
Incentives were also provided to glass suppliers, especially those basic recyclers who deliver the most glass per month to the Hub. With this, they ensure that tons of glass bottles and jars are properly recycled and return to production chains. In total, 50 suppliers were recognized, who were given various incentives such as: shopping vouchers in supermarkets, school supply kits, food baskets, and others.
To date, the Glass Hub has more than 120 suppliers, of which 75 are basic recyclers and recyclers.
What is the Glass Hub?
The Glass Hub is a project promoted by O-I Cridesa, the main company that processes most glass in the country, located in Guayaquil, and managed in Quito by ReciVeci, a pioneering company in inclusive recycling and the circular economy in Ecuador.
The main objective of this collection center is to bridge the logistical gap involved in recovering, storing and transporting glass bottles and containers to the company's facilities in Guayaquil. This difficulty previously caused tons of this 100% and infinitely recyclable material to be wasted. Since November 2023, this reality has been changing in the center-north of the country thanks to the Glass Hub.
Glass is purchased in bulk and retail, and for establishments, pickup is free!
At the Hub, we receive glass in two ways: we buy by weight from suppliers; and for establishments such as: restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels, etc., we offer free collection services in their establishments, in exchange for providing them with environmental performance indicators (KPIs). Only: green, transparent and brown food bottles and jars are accepted.
From ReciVeci, we extend our thanks to the IOM for its valuable support, which has made it possible to provide these awards and incentives to those who collaborate with the Glass Hub. These actions are part of one of the IOM Business Development Funds, with which we were recognized in May of this year 2024, and which allows us to continue strengthening both the operations and the communication of the Hub, which is such an important project for Quito and Ecuador.
