Since the beginning of 2024, the consultancy led by ReciVeci and Mingas by the sea began to create the National Plan for the Reduction of Plastic Waste in Ecuador, which includes the protection of the marine environment. This effort is being developed in conjunction with the WWF, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE) and aligns with the objectives of the Global Platform for Action on Plastics (GPAP), of which Ecuador is a part. The project is funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
As part of this process, on September 10 and 12, 2024, the first two workshops were held in Quito and Guayaquil respectively, and where, through the participation of a consultative group (specifically formed for this purpose) and several actors from the plastics sector, the first steps were traced for this process, which will last until 2025.
These initial workshops mark an important step in building a future with a greater culture of circular economy and sustainability for Ecuador, demonstrating the country's commitment to reducing plastic waste and protecting its terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
From the consulting team, ReciVeci and Mingas por el Mar, we thank all the companies, institutions and technical experts involved in this process, which will allow us to materialize the much needed National Plan for the Reduction of Plastic Waste for the country.
