Green Footprint reaches a milestone: 50 million disposable items avoided

06/2025

At ReciVeci we celebrate the important achievement of Green Footprint, the Ecuadorian initiative that has avoided the use of 50 million disposable items in food courts of 10 shopping malls of the country. This result is the result of its reusable tableware model, which not only avoids waste, but also emissions associated with the production and transport of single-use products.

This system proposes a different way of thinking about consumption. Reusing helps reduce the need to manufacture new packaging, which also decreases the use of resources such as water. Washing a reusable dish may require up to 10 times less water than producing a disposable one. In addition, it has a valuable social impact, since resources that were previously allocated to single-use packaging now generate decent income for 79 people who work at Huella Verde.

During the day of celebration of May 14, Huella Verde shared the results of its 2024 Sustainability Report, with data on environmental impact, employment generation and testimonies from strategic partners. A video was also released with WWF, reaffirming the power of collaboration to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics in Ecuador.

At ReciVeci, we believe that transformation begins with reducing, rethinking and preventing. For this reason, we support and promote initiatives such as Green Footprint, which propose concrete solutions to prevent plastic before it becomes waste.

At ReciVeci, we applaud this progress and recognize the leadership of Huella Verde as an example that inspires other organizations to change habits, rethink processes and build a future without waste.
