DHL drives corporate volunteering together with ReciVeci® to turn organic waste into compost

06/2026

Every day we generate organic waste, but we rarely think about what happens to it after we dispose of it. In Ecuador, more than 50% of the waste we produce is organic and a large portion ends up buried, generating emissions and impacting cities.

Faced with this challenge, DHL Express Ecuador and ReciVeci® launched a corporate volunteering day focused on composting and sustainability, as part of a broader strategy to move towards responsible waste management and contribute to DHL's global goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Together with Mutare Mundo, 38 DHL volunteers visited a composting plant in Machachi to learn firsthand how organic waste can be transformed into compost and returned to the earth instead of becoming trash.

During the day, participants toured the plant, learned about composting, and actively participated in the process, understanding the environmental impact of proper organic waste management.

The experience was part of ReciVeci's corporate volunteering service, an initiative that aims for companies to move from intention to action, involving their teams in practical experiences around sustainability, circular economy, and waste management.

In addition to this volunteering effort, DHL works with ReciVeci® on a comprehensive strategy for its waste management, which includes training, collections with grassroots recyclers, traceability, and measurable social and environmental impact.

These types of initiatives allow companies to better understand the waste they generate and build more responsible solutions together with their employees.

Because sustainability doesn't just happen in reports or speeches. It also happens when people understand their impact and participate directly in the solution.
